Remodel: Tukasa Creations

From the hillsides to the valleys, a southern home shows beauty from the inside to the outside.

Travel down the beautiful countryside of Texas to explore the beauty of this kitchen. From beginning to end, this home was built off the style of the homeowner. As you scurry your way in, you will be welcomed by the amazing cabinetry that once only presented your basic brushed over white.

A southern style kitchen is built off the character of the homeowner, in which, the rooms mean more to them than a cooking location. This is a place that represents the woman behind the baking and cleaning. She is country meets glam. When asked what the lady wanted her home to represent she of course designed it based off her character. She took the reins on the blueprints and designed everything from the moldings to the style of cabinets that would be included in the construction.

Every home has a certain elegance and characteristic, but this Southern Charm wanted to modernize her kitchen but still keep the rustic/traditional appearance in the home. Tukasa Creations stayed true to the design envisioned by the homeowner but added a little twist to the rustic appeal by combining and transforming into the modern 21st century woman with a southern twang in the roots!

Dark cabinetry was envisioned in her mind, until she fell in love with the beautiful Glacier White Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. offers in our Premier Series. When remodeling takes place in the home, sometimes that means restructuring of the room. The oven was originally located where the pantry is placed now. The designers moved the oven to the other side to get it closer to the cooktop displayed on the gorgeous island. One addition to the kitchen, as well, was to make the pantry larger than normal. A pantry can never be too large to hold all your essential needs.

To represent this woman’s style, glass door fronts were installed in the cabinets so this lovely lady could display her turquoise, Fiesta dishware. One of the best qualities about choosing a white kitchen is the ability to intertwine with just about any color in the home. She wanted this possibility because as you can tell, she has an eye for fashion.

This woman is all about the details. To top of the elegant cabinetry, she wanted light rail molding below the upper cabinets and all base cabinets, as well as matching ends and fluted molding.

Remodel: Old World Artisan by Tukasa Creations

Don’t you just love a good, jaw-dropping, breath-taking kitchen remodel? I know we sure do. Today, we want to share a kitchen that took on an incredible makeover leaving the space not only gorgeous but also more functional and practical to accommodate all of the family’s needs.

Background:

Located in the beautiful area of Corpus Christi, Texas the home was a new purchase that was within only a few hundred feet from the bay. Although the location was outstanding, there were a few not so wonderful features. The kitchen was outdated with a layout that was far from pleasing to the new homeowners making it an area that they wanted to focus on. Because it felt boxed in, the plan was to open up the space to fit their needs.

The homeowners wanted a rustic, old world look for the kitchen, which was brought in through the finish techniques on the cabinetry and the Saltillo floor-part of the home’s roots.

Before:

The kitchen use to be surrounded by a wall with walk-in pantries, but it was not accessible and left the homeowners with not enough space. This outdated and unappealing kitchen was ready for a huge change.

After:

To fix the problem of the pantry being inaccessible, pantry storage was added into the kitchen cabinetry. Removing the pantry wall allowed for a more open and welcoming design.

The homeowners love to entertain and have children, so they are always hosting guests! This is why such a large island was incorporated into the design. Another reason for the large island is because they wanted a large work zone. The husband loves to cook, so he wanted a sink and stove in the same vicinity for functional food prep space.

The combination of two cabinet door styles partnered with a dark stain and added detail through a finish technique is what makes this kitchen such a standout. The base cabinets are Wellborn’s Premier Series Rose Hall Square and the Wall cabinets are Wellborn’s Premier Series Rose Hall Arch. The cabinetry is Maple and finished with a Sienna stain and Charcoal glaze. Character is added to the cabinetry with an Olde World finish technique which consists of burnishing, rub thru, small dents, worm holes, dry brush glazing, carved edges, medium dents and rasping.

Design Goals and Details: We had a blank canvas to work with in designing the bar for our clients, as it was incorporated in a full scale renovation of the basement. The focal point of the space features a custom wet bar with raised granite to create a dramatic space for entertaining family and friends. It includes a beverage center, ice machine, and plenty of additional seating for guests. The bar features the Hanover door style in Cherry, highlighted with an Espresso finish. We incorporated glass upper cabinets to show off the client’s stemware and achieve the modern vision the client’s hoped for.

When you walked into this Townhome you were faced with an outdated and cramped kitchen.

Before 003

The customer wanted her guests to be greeted by a bright, “up to date” space which incorporated a warm classic style.

Now, as you enter this townhome you are drawn into the sophisticated, modern kitchen with its touch of European styling.

The diminutive space and placing of skylights made opening the kitchen difficult. By expanding the room into the laundry room both obstacles were overcome. The washer and dryer had to be placed inside the kitchen which created a blemish to the design.

By “hiding” the washer and dryer behind matching Wellborn cabinetry customized bi-fold doors, a balance and continuity was established which ultimately contributed to the design of this space.

With the extensive choices of door styles and accessories that Wellborn offers, cabinets that were oak and ordinary were replaced by Monterey Maple Cabinetry finished in Glacier. This made a homely kitchen come to life with sophistication and warmth.

White tile countertops were replaced with beautiful granite.

granite

Using the colors in the granite a distinctive backsplash in a three-dimensional design was an artful addition, a pleasing change from the plain blue and white tile backsplash that existed before.

The design of the workspace is redefined by changing a closed “u” to a more open design.

The island has an elegant 6cm OG round over edge, giving prominence to the black granite composite under mount sink.

The heated tile floor provided a literal warmth which allowed the customer to function a little easier on those cold winter mornings, as opposed to the vinyl floor which existed before.

Recessed lighting, classy pendants and natural skylights created general and task lighting which made
a dreary kitchen more brilliant and workable, and added to the panache of the design.
Attention to detail was followed all the way down to the hardware on the cabinet doors in a collaboration of different
styles.

This created a customized look, which the client loved!
