    60/30/10 Rule

There's an essential rule in interior design to assist with the use of color. And it's an excellent starting point as you start planning your color scheme.

The 60-30-10 rule in interior decorating is a guideline to help create a balanced and harmonious color scheme in a room. It suggests using 60% of the main color, 30% of a secondary color, and 10% of an accent color.

    In the example provided:
    • 60% is the walls, ceilings and the main countertop,
    • 30% is the cabinetry, appliance finish
    • 10% is the finish on the island.

Also, Designers use the 70-20-10 color rule, which follows the same general concepts of the 60-30-10 rule, just with varying percentages of color.

    Create My
    Color Palette

Another tip for selecting colors - It's recommended to choose a palette of 3-5 colors, including a light color, 1-2 neutrals, and 1-2 supporting colors. To create a cohesive look, you can connect colors through their families, like pairing blues with blues or whites with whites.

    Color and Open
    Space Designs

To create a cohesive color palette for your open space and home, try incorporating small touches of the same colors throughout the area. For example, you could match the color of decorative hardware on cabinets and light fixtures with other accents in the room, such as pillows or decorative objects. This will help tie the space together and create a cohesive look.
