Picture this: it’s 2022 and the housing market is booming. Houses are being sold in less than a week, sometimes even hours after it’s listed. So, how are they doing it? What’s making these houses sell so quickly? Maybe it’s luck, or, maybe it’s home improvement projects. These six home improvement projects are almost guaranteed to increase the value of your home and make your house fly off the market. Start placing your bets! Will it be weeks, days, or hours??

Enhance Your Curb Appeal

A huge step towards increasing the value of your home is to enhance the curb appeal. When most people hear this, their mind automatically goes to landscaping, but curb appeal is not limited to just that! Consider switching out your front door to a new modern one or simply throw a fresh coat of paint on it. You could also put seating and lighting on your front porch to transform it into a warm, welcoming space before entering your home. Something to do that will specifically spruce up your garden and landscaping is to take out the old mulch and plants and add new ones! Here’s a list of other things that will help you increase your curb appeal:

  • Freshen up your mailbox by adding plants around the base of it.
  • Put up new siding and change the color of your house.
  • Put in a fenced-in yard, or even just a fence on the front sides of it to create some privacy from the road!

Brighten Up Your Space to Increase the Value of Your Home

If you have a house that’s on the smaller side, you can make it feel bigger just by some simple remodeling! First, try to use lighter paint shades. Doing this will reflect the natural light in the room to make it feel larger. Whites, creams, light grays, and blues are generally the best colors to use.

Another thing to do to brighten up your space is to paint all of the rooms the same color to create a cohesive aesthetic and strengthen the proportions of the space. Alternatively, if you need a quick fix to make your space feel bigger, strategically place large mirrors. For example, if you place a mirror opposite a window, it will reflect the natural light and bounce it around the room which gives off the illusion that it’s bigger.

Popcorn Anyone?

Not the kind you’re thinking of. Popcorn ceilings… which are sooo 1950s. Removing popcorn ceilings can change your space drastically. If you chose to remove it yourself, proceed with caution as some popcorn ceilings installed before 1980 may contain asbestos. Inhaling disturbed asbestos fibers is dangerous and can lead to lung cancer or mesothelioma. You can test for asbestos by contacting your local health department to have a sample tested before you begin the project. If the test comes back positive, you unfortunately will not be able to safely remove it without a professional.

The best way to get rid of it is to cover it up with new drywall or tongue-and-groove planks. If it tests negative, you’re in the clear and you can follow these tips for removing popcorn ceilings. Good luck!

Increase the Value of Your Home by Revitalizing Your Bathroom

Rumor has it that upgrading your bathroom can single-handedly increase the value of your home. One upgrade you can make to change the entire aesthetic of your bathroom is to install a luxurious floating bathroom vanity. Not only would this make your bathroom feel bigger but it would also create more storage space! For even more storage space, try adding a bathroom storage solution such as an over-the-toilet shelving, ladder shelf, or a classic linen closet.

Furthermore, swap out your current shower for an all-glass shower with fresh marble tile. Add some hanging plants to boost your immune system and create a relaxing environment.

Elevate Your Kitchen

Upgrading your kitchen is another thing that can single-handedly increase the value of your home. Having a large kitchen island big enough for a sink, preparing food, and having your family or guests sit is essential. One thing you can do that makes a world of difference without the hassle of a full kitchen renovation is adding crown molding to the top of your kitchen cabinets to add some visual interest and sophistication to the space. Lastly, adding new appliances such as a dishwasher or a refrigerator could be the difference between your house selling or not.

Out With the Old, In With the New

Times are changing, and it’s finally the time to replace the old carpet with some brand new flooring! According to House Beautiful, two of the trending floor styles of 2022 are oversized planks and white oak floors. Swapping out your flooring for an updated, trendier look will make the world of a difference in your home! Adding the same flooring throughout the house will make your home look more aesthetically pleasing and cohesive.

Upgrading one or all of these six things is bound to increase the value of your home. Fortunately, with the current market, you don’t have to make all of the home improvements that are talked about above as houses are still selling quickly. But, it’s important to make these home improvements if you’re looking to sell even quicker or get more money for your home.
