Cabinet End Panels & Interiors

Framed cabinetry and full-access frameless cabinetry methods each require slightly different construction methods. Keep reading to see how Wellborn Cabinet puts quality first for both types of cabinetry.

Framed Cabinet Construction

Framed cabinets are the more traditional style of cabinetry. These cabinets can be either full overlay where the door covers most or all of the face frame or partial overlay where only a portion of the face frame is covered by the door.

Hanging Rails

For many years, hanging rails have been incorporated into the cabinetry to offer a sturdy installation foundation. Wellborn Cabinet still includes hanging rails with these construction features in all wall and base frame cabinets, despite the fact that many other manufacturers have modified this feature to reduce costs. It has been demonstrated that using a captive construction method is the best way to avoid installation issues. After installation, hanging rails stop the cabinet's back from pulling away and developing minor cracks. This superior construction technique has been demonstrated to support three to four times the weight of industry minimum requirements.

End Panels

Wellborn Cabinet uses features ½” thick end panels in all cabinet construction. Our end panels are available with ½” wood grain laminate in The Premier Series or an optional 5-ply wood veneer end panel. All Plywood Construction is standard with an unfinished wood veneer end panel.

WellGrip I-Beam Brace

WellGrip I-beam braces are made of ½” thick furniture board or optional plywood. The I-beam is a strong brace running front to back on both sides of the cabinet. The braces are dadoed and glued into the front, back and side of the cabinet providing strength, ensuring cabinet squareness and serving as handles during installation.

Cross-Lock Into End Panels

The back of the face frame is routed with a step-down groove to receive the uniquely routed edge of the end panel creating an interlocking piece between the end panel and the face frame of the cabinet. This joint is glued and stapled together at a specific angle to create a time-tested method of superior woodworking quality known as a cross lock.

50% More Shelf

Heavy-duty ¾” thick furniture board and optional plywood shelves feature our natural maple WellShield interior and matching edge banded front edges. Furniture board shelves resist warping, and the extra ¼” thickness provides superior strength over many in the industry at ½” thick.

Finish Interior

Beautiful matching interiors further accentuate the modern look that makes wood cabinetry so desirable. A die-cast, chrome shelf rest is included with our finished interior cabinetry for that custom look.

WellShield Interior

Wellborn's natural maple WellShield interior provides a smooth, easy-to-clean surface that is resistant to most household chemicals and protects the substrate material. The WellShield interior is a neutral, natural maple color in framed cabinets that coordinates beautifully with all exterior finishes.

WellLock Shelf Clips

Positive locking shelf clips lock shelves in place to prevent tipping and are used for all standard interior cabinets. They are also simple to release for adjusting shelf height.

Lighting

Lighting is so very important in all rooms for both design and visual needs. Framed cabinets offer more areas for placing the lighting mechanisms within and under the cabinetry. A nice light rail will help hide that much needed task lighting.

Frameless Cabinet Construction

Frameless cabinetry has ¾” thick thermofused melamine laminated interior and exterior furniture board end panels with coordinated front edge banding to reflect exterior (front) finish.

Dowel Construction

Dowel construction is distinctive of frameless cabinetry. Dowels join the end panels to the floor, top, toe kick, front rail, and the stretcher rail providing a strong connection.

Hanging Rails

Hanging rails build into cabinetry provide a strong foundation for cabinet installation. This form of construction has been proven to be the most effective way to prevent installation problems. Hanging rails prevent the back of the cabinet from pulling away and causing light cracks after installation. Frameless cabinetry conceals the hanging rails behind the 3/16" thick cabinet back to maintain a clean interior.. This superior method of construction is proven to withstand 3-4 times the weight of industry required standards.

Shelves

Heavy duty 3/4" thick furniture board and optional plywood shelves feature our natural maple WellShield interior and matching edge banded front edges. Furniture board shelves resist warping, and the extra 1/4" thickness provides superior strength over many in the industry at 1/2" thick.
